The central bank is you; this explains the staffing shortage

Upload a face and the institution immediately surrounds it with engraving, seals, serial numbers and the kind of borders normally reserved for treaties and extremely serious luncheon menus. The result is novelty paper, not legal tender, because the economy has standards and has declined to lower them this afternoon.

Unlike genuine currency, the note is backed by no law, issuer or measurable value. It is supported by a photograph, a browser and the firm belief that your cheekbones deserve a role in monetary policy.

Authority, now available in upload form

Banknotes compress national authority into a small visual object. Borders imply control. Portraits imply permanence. Seals imply that someone approved something after a meeting with water glasses. Place those conventions around an ordinary person and the person begins to look capable of setting interest rates before lunch.

The design borrows authority without claiming it. You become the face of the economy; the economy is not consulted, receives no calendar invitation and continues mostly out of habit.

The institutional finding

History used shells, cattle, metal, wood, paper and stones too large to misplace. We chose you because stones photograph poorly and cattle rarely accept the terms. The finished rectangle has no cash value, but it carries the executive presence of a small republic arriving late to brunch.
