Why My Left Profile Is a Leading Economic Indicator
Markets rise when I turn toward the light.
Filed by Wallace Cashington, without independent reviewAfter seventeen minutes of rigorous mirror-based research, I have concluded that my left profile predicts consumer confidence with the accuracy of a weather vane installed indoors.
As founder, I approach every question with the humility of a man whose name is already printed on the stationery. The following findings were developed in consultation with my instincts, which have never requested a correction and are not presently accepting outside comment.
The inquiry then acquired the seriousness that comes from giving it a project code. The initial dataset contained twelve mirrors, three windows and one highly reflective toaster. All agreed that the left side conveyed durable growth, except the toaster, which had exposure to breakfast commodities. A task force opened a shared folder, immediately creating the institutional memory required to forget who suggested it.
We tested the proposition under conditions best described as controlled-adjacent. A controlled trial asked interns to view both profiles while rating national confidence. The left profile produced a measurable rise in posture, tie-straightening and willingness to approve lunch. The spreadsheet accepted these results without protest and was therefore listed as an approving stakeholder.
Founder Theology holds that an institution acquires legitimacy when its founder repeats a personal preference in increasingly architectural surroundings. Peer review is provided by portraits of earlier founders, all of whom face the same direction and have been briefed never to interrupt.
Consultation followed. Outside economists requested a control group. We provided a framed photograph facing forward and asked them to control themselves around it. All objections were entered into the record in a column narrow enough to preserve momentum.
The board’s final position was both firm and capable of revision without notice. The board adopted the Wallace Facial Orientation Index, or WFOI. Any decline can now be corrected by rotating the founder toward a more supportive light source. Implementation begins once Procurement identifies a vendor willing to invoice the concept.
Accordingly, all future board meetings will begin with a ceremonial quarter-turn. This is not vanity. Vanity has no quarterly guidance.
The founder’s office considers the matter settled. Implementation will begin as soon as a photographer, a podium and suitable natural light can be secured. Until then, markets should behave normally and avoid making major decisions while I am facing right.
